Simple Date Night Ideas for At-Home Times

Let’s face it. Date night nowadays may look very different – and that is, if they’re happening at all! With a lot of North America still on lockdown as we come up to a year of living through different iterations of quarantine, romance may have fallen by the wayside.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we wanted to share some fun, simple and romantic date night ideas to get that spark going again. You want to ensure the night doesn’t feel like every other night (tough when a lot of us are living out Groundhog Day) – but think about what you usually do in the evenings recently, and then turn it on its head.

One of my top tips to ensure the night feels special is to put those phones away! Nothing is less romantic than having your nose stuck in your phone during your time together. Instead, stash those phones in another room (make sure they’re on silent), throw on a smooth and sultry playlist, and enjoy the moment you’re in – savour the company, the food and of course, the wine.

If you’re lucky enough to live somewhere that restaurants are still open – well, you may already have a reservation and a plan (good for you!). But if you’re like me and are living somewhere that restaurants are still not open for dining, you may have to get a bit more creative.

The easiest option is take-out! There are a plethora of restaurants offering amazing tasting and take out menus – some which have been specially curated for Valentine’s Day.  A lot of these restaurants are also offering the option to add in a wine/cocktail/beverage pairing – so why not indulge a bit?

Another option if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous is to pick up a meal kit from one of your favourite restaurants. Restaurants right now are being forced to be more creative than ever in what value they’re bringing to you, the consumer. So, do a little research – see what tickles your fancy. Will you and your loved one be whipping up a fresh homemade pizza from scratch? Or maybe you’re going to try your hands at a DIY Taco Kit or a Thai favourite.

And then of course, if you really want to get your hands dirty and get those creative juices flowing, you can cook a meal together using your own imagination. This is my personal favourite as I love trying out new recipes or mixing and matching ingredients from my go-to meals to create something totally new. And don’t forget about dessert – maybe you could even try your luck with Priya’s Molten Lava Cakes?
