Let’s start with the actual definition of organic food. It’s agricultural foods that are grown adhering to a specific set of standards, and those exact standards can vary from country to country. However, generally speaking it means the foods were grown without any use of synthetic herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers.
I was fortunate to visit British Columbia recently and was able to squeeze in some quality time checking out the spectacular Okanagan Valley, a pristine wine region which has experienced tremendous change since my last visit ten years ago. Luckily, a few wineries were open with socially distanced tastings and the weather was perfect to spend some time outdoors.
It’s easy to think that wine is just fermented grape juice – how on earth could it not be vegan, right? But there are ways in which a wine can become non-vegan friendly; and this happens in the production process.
